Suspect Arrested and Firearm Recovered after Foot Pursuit in Roslindale

At approximately 7:30 PM on Friday, August 28, 2026, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force, made an on-site arrest of Javeon Phillips and recovered a loaded firearm in the area of 49 Metropolitan Avenue in Roslindale.

While enroute to a scheduled shift, an off-duty officer observed the suspect, who he recognized as having an active warrant, attempting to cross the street at the the intersection of Washington Street and Metropolitan Avenue in Roslindale. The off-duty officer activated himself and notified additional officers of the suspect’s location.

As responding officers arrived, the suspect fled on foot, with officers in pursuit. Officers pursued the suspect throughout the neighborhood before he eventually came to a stop in the area of 49 Metropolitan Avenue. As officers attempted to approach the suspect, he took off again. Officers continued to pursue the suspect for an extended duration, eventually losing sight of him in the area of Wellsmere Road.

With assistance from the Drone as First Responder, officers were able to locate the suspect who was hiding in the bushes in the rear of 65-67 Wellsmere Road. The suspect was taken into custody.

Further investigation led to the recovery of a firearm in the area of 3 Denton Terrace. Officers also located the suspect’s clothing that he had discarded during the pursuit.

The firearm was determined to be a 9mm Springfield Armory XDM-9 with an attached laser and flashlight loaded with thirteen rounds of live ammunition.

Officers arrested Javeon Phillips, 23-years-old, of Roxbury. Phillips is expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court on charges of  Carrying a Firearm without a License Third Offense, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card, Breaking and Entering, and Trespassing.
