Investigation Update: About 8:45 PM, on Friday, August 21, 2026, an officer assigned to District A-1 (Downtown) was conducting traffic enforcement in the theater district. While waiting at a red light at Stuart Street and Washington Street, a vehicle was seen traveling at a high rate of speed in the opposite direction.
The officer conducted a query of the vehicle’s registration which determined that the owner had an active arrest warrant. At this time, the officer initiated a traffic stop. The operator of the vehicle was confirmed to be the registered owner and was placed into handcuffs.
Angel Gonzalez, 22, of Dorchester, was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court for a felony warrant on charges of:
- Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon
- Leaving the scene of personal injury
- Fail to stop for police
The facts and circumstances surrounding the prior incident are as follows: At about 12:40 PM, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, an officer assigned to District A-1 (Downtown) was conducting a walk and talk in the area of Franklin Street. This section of Downtown Crossing is designated for pedestrians and emergency vehicles only.
The officer observed a moped weaving in and out of pedestrians in an attempt to gain access to Washington Street. As the officer approached the operator, he accelerated, knocking the officer to the ground. A description of the suspect and the moped were broadcasted. The officer was evaluated on scene by Boston EMS, and further medical treatment was declined.
