At about 12:00 PM on Thursday, August 6, 2026, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force made an on-site arrest of a 14-year-old juvenile male and recovered a loaded firearm in the area of 612 Centre Street in Jamaica Plain.
As part of an ongoing investigation, officers received information that the suspect was in possession of a firearm. Officers observed the suspect exit his residence and enter a motor vehicle. Officers further observed the motor vehicle travel on Chestnut Street, turn right onto Green Street and then right onto Centre Street. Officers activated their emergency equipment and initiated a traffic stop in the area of 612 Centre Street.
Officers approached the vehicle and immediately noticed the suspect breathing heavily. Officers issued an exit order to the suspect who complied. Officers recovered a firearm from the left side of the suspect’s waistband. The suspect was taken into custody. The operator of the motor vehicle was identified and released from the scene.
The firearm was determined to be a Charter Arms .38 special Undercover handgun loaded with four rounds of live ammunition.
During the booking process, the suspect tensed up when officers attempted to retrieve the suspect’s cell phone. A brief struggle ensued in which the suspect pushed an officer. Officers were able to gain control of the suspect who eventually calmed down.
The 14-year-old suspect, of Jamaica Plain, is expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court on charges of Delinquent to wit; Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, and Vandalism.
