BPD Remembers: The men and women of the Boston Police Department remember the service and sacrifice of Patrolman James B. O’Leary, who was killed in the line of duty 62 years ago today on August 2, 1963. Patrolman O’Leary was shot and killed while chasing several suspects who had just committed a robbery. The two suspects were arrested and convicted of first-degree murder.
Patrolman O’Leary was 46 years old at the time of his death and had served the Boston Police Department for 16 years. He was survived by his wife and three children.
Patrolman O’Leary is buried at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Roxbury, MA. His name is on the National Law Enforcement Memorial, Panel 3, East Line 11.
