About 5:45 p.m., officers assigned to District 3 (Mattapan) made an on-site arrest of a 17-year-old juvenile male from Dorchester and a 16-year-old juvenile male from Dorchester for motor vehicle violations and multiple firearm offenses
Officers were positioned at the red light located at Blue Hill Avenue and Morton Street when their attention was drawn to a Black Moped, which was occupied by two juvenile males who were wearing masks and not wearing helmets. Officers observed that the moped did not have a vehicle registration plate, and that the juvenile males had driven the moped onto the sidewalk on Frontenac Street.
Officers proceeded onto Frontenac Street to conduct a traffic stop, where they observed both juveniles had dismounted the moped and were attempting to repair a mechanical issue.
Officers exited their cruiser and began approaching the juveniles when the 17-year-old male clutched his waistband and broke out in a full sprint. A few feet away, Officers were able to safely place the 17-year-old in handcuffs. After the juvenile was placed in handcuffs, officers observed a handle of a firearm equipped with an extended magazine protruding from the juvenile’s waistband.
Due to the 17-year-old juvenile’s age, Officers were aware that he could not legally possess a License to Carry and was placed under arrest.
Officers observed the moped to be without a front panel, with loose and exposed wiring, and without an ignition. Officers conducted an inquiry which revealed no registration status on record for the moped.
Officers also determined that the 16-year-old juvenile did not possess a valid driver’s license. Officers then placed the 16-year-old male under arrest for various violations of the auto laws.
District detectives arrived on the scene and processed the firearm. The firearm was determined to be a black-and-gold semi-automatic polymer ghost gun, with a black extended magazine. The firearm was loaded with a total of fifteen (15) rounds of ammunition.
The 17-Year-Old Juvenile male is expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court on the following charges:
- Delinquent to wit; Carrying a Firearm Without a License
- Delinquent to wit; Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License
- Delinquent to wit; Possession of Ammunition Without an FID Card
- Delinquent to wit; Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm
- Delinquent to wit; Possession of a Covert or Undetectable Firearm
The 16-Year-Old Juvenile male is expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court on the following charges:
- Delinquent to wit; Receiving Stolen Motor Vehicle
- Delinquent to wit; Unregistered Motor Vehicle
- Delinquent to wit; Unlicensed Operation of Motor Vehicle
- Delinquent to wit; Helmet Violation
