District B-2 (Roxbury) officers and detectives, working with the Boston Housing Authority Police, arrested a 20-year-old Jamaica Plain man on an outstanding warrant late Friday night in connection with a shooting that occurred earlier this summer in Roxbury.
At approximately 8:40 p.m. on July 24, 2026, officers on patrol in the Mildred C. Hailey development observed Aahmonyea Platt, 20, of Jamaica Plain, walking in the area of Minden Street. Officers confirmed an active warrant for Platt’s arrest and took him into custody without incident in front of 82 Minden Street.
Platt is charged with:
- Assault to murder
- Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon
- Discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building
- Attempted assault and battery with a firearm
- Carrying a firearm without a license, second offense
The charges stem from a shooting that occurred shortly after midnight on July 5, 2026 near Smith Street and Pauline Bennett Way in Roxbury. Officers responding to a report of a person shot located a trail of blood and ballistic evidence at the scene. The victim had been transported by private vehicle to a local hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound.
Investigators recovered physical evidence at the scene of the shooting and at the hospital during the course of the investigation. A second suspect in the shooting has not yet been positively identified, and the investigation remains active.
Separately, investigators developed probable cause during the course of this investigation to seek charges against the victim for trafficking a Class B controlled substance, following the recovery of narcotics during his medical treatment. That matter is being handled independently.
Platt faces charges in Roxbury District Court.
