Officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested a Dorchester man on firearm related charges Thursday morning following a traffic stop near Ruggles Street and Tremont Street.
At approximately 11:03 a.m., officers were traveling on Tremont Street when they observed a vehicle with heavily tinted windows in violation of Massachusetts law. A records check revealed the registered owner had a suspended license. Officers conducted a traffic stop, and the operator did not immediately pull over, continuing for approximately 30 seconds before stopping.
Officers confirmed the operator was the registered owner, Walter Gonzalez III, 23, of Dorchester, who was not legally licensed to operate the vehicle. During an exit order, officers observed a firearm in plain view inside the vehicle. Gonzalez was taken into custody without further incident.
The firearm, a revolver loaded with four .25 caliber rounds, was recovered and processed by investigators. The make, model, and serial number of the weapon could not be determined.
Gonzalez is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on the following charges:
- Carrying a firearm without a license, second offense
- Possession of ammunition without an FID card
- Carrying a loaded firearm without a license, second offense
- Unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle
