BPD Remembers: The men and women of the Boston Police Department remember Officer Michael J. Brennan who was killed in the line of duty 108 years ago today on July 7, 1918. Officer Brennan died as a result of life-threatening injuries he suffered from an apparent fall from a great height while pursuing a suspect in the area of Warren Street in Roxbury. Patrolman Brennan was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Officer Brennan was 33-years-old at the time of his death and he worked for the department for less than a year. Officer Brennan left behind a grieving wife and a son, who was born the day after his funeral services.
Officer Brennan was laid to rest at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery in West Roxbury. His name is located on the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C. on Panel 10, West Line 28. His name is also forever engraved on the Hero Wall at Boston Police Headquarters and the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial at the State House in Boston.
