Keeping Boston Safe: At about 5:45 PM on Friday, May 1, 2026, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force and Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit conducted a traffic stop which resulted in the arrest of Jakai Boswell, 23-years-old, of Dorchester and the recovery of a firearm in the area of 48 Hartford Street in Dorchester.
While on patrol in the area of Hartford Street, officers observed a motor vehicle operating with a severely cracked front windshield as well as an expired registration sticker. Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens and conducted a traffic stop in the area of 48 Hartford Street.
As officers approached the vehicle to speak with the operator, he became instantly confrontational. The operator refused to provide documentation for the vehicle. Officers determined the vehicle to be a rental, but the operator again refused to produce proper documentation and remained defiant towards officers and their requests. Following an investigation into the operator, he was eventually removed from the vehicle.
On the rear passenger’s seat, officers located a backpack that contained a firearm. The operator was taken into custody. The firearm was determined to be a Glock 22 .40 caliber firearm loaded with nineteen rounds of ammunition.
Boswell is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges of Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device.
