BPD Remembers: The men and women of the Boston Police Department remember the service and sacrifice of Captain Hugh J. Lee who died in the line of duty on this day 107 years ago, on May 2, 1919. Captain Lee was killed in the line of duty when he suffered a fatal heart attack attempting to suppress rioters in Roxbury.
Captain Lee was 53-years-old at the time of his death and he had served the department for a 30 years. He was survived by his wife. Captain Lee was laid to rest at the Old Dorchester Cemetery in Dorchester and his name is located on the National Law Enforcement Memorial on Panel 11, West Line 28.
