Keeping Boston Safe: At about 2:33 AM on Saturday, April 11, 2026, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) conducted a traffic stop which led to the recovery of a loaded firearm in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Fremont Street in Mattapan.
While on patrol in the area of the aforementioned location, officers observed a group of individuals huddled around a motor vehicle. An inquiry of the vehicle revealed the operator’s license had been suspended. Officers approached the vehicle to speak with the four occupants. During the interaction, the rear passenger of the vehicle appeared to be increasingly anxious, sweating, breathing heavily, and refusing to speak with officers, while the other three occupants engaged officers and complied with their requests. While speaking with the occupants, officers observed a black backpack resting above the rear passenger’s headrest. Due to the operator’s suspended license, all occupants were removed from the vehicle. Officers subsequently recovered a Polymer 80 40 caliber firearm with a PF940C frame loaded with twenty-one rounds of ammunition in an extended magazine. The firearm was located inside of the backpack above the rear passenger’s headrest. The rear passenger was taken into custody while the remaining occupants were identified and released from the scene. The operator was issued a citation for Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License.
Officers arrested James Perry Jr. 30-years-old, of Dorchester. Perry is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Defacing a Firearm’s Serial Number, and Firearm Violation with a Prior Violent Crime.
