Mattapan Officers Recovered a Firearm After Observing Multiple Fireworks

On Monday, March 9, 2026, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Kahnari White, 24, of Mattapan, on various firearm offenses.

About 10:04 PM, a call for shots fired was received for the area of Callender Street. While responding, a supervisor alerted to individuals shooting off fireworks on Baird Street. Upon arrival, a group was seen congregating near a vehicle that had several open and unopened packages of fireworks on top of it.

As officers exited their cruiser, one male began sprinting towards Blue Hill Avenue. A foot pursuit ensued, and the suspect was seen discarding a jacket. Multiple officers assisted and were able to place the suspect into handcuffs. Police conducted a pat frisk of the jacket and a firearm was recovered from inside the right-side pocket. The firearm was determined to be a Polymer 80 style Ghost gun with seventeen rounds in the magazine.

The group now became hostile and threatening to an officer who remained with them on scene. As additional units arrived, a male suspect continued to threaten an officer and bumped him in the chest. Multiple de-escalation tactics were attempted, but the suspect continued to threaten officers.

The officers attempted to place Sean Galvez, 40, of Quincy, under arrest, but he refused to place his hands behind his back. Officers were able to handcuff the suspect, and he was transported from the scene for booking.

Both suspects are expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court for the following charges:

Kahnari White:

  • Carry a loaded firearm without a license
  • Carry a firearm without a license
  • Possession of a firearm without an FID card
  • Possession of a large capacity feeding device

Sean Galvez:

  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Resist Arrest
  • Assault and Battery on a Police Officer
