Happy International Women’s Day! Today we celebrate the incredible contributions and achievements of women, especially those serving in law enforcement, both within the Boston Police Department and across the nation. We honor the trailblazers who opened doors for women in policing and are proud that the department continues to exceed the national average for women serving in our ranks and in leadership roles.
Observed each year on March 8, International Women’s Day gives us an opportunity not only to recognize and thank the dedicated women who serve, but also to continue advocating for stronger female representation in law enforcement. Recruiting and retaining women officers remains a key priority, and we are committed to building a department that reflects the diversity and strength of the communities we serve.
In 2023, Mayor Wu and Police Commissioner Cox signed the 30×30 Pledge, a national initiative that aims for women to make up 30% of police recruits by 2030. We look forward to the continued growth and opportunities ahead for women in policing at BPD. 💙🚔
