Youth Violence Strike Force Arrests Man, Seizes Loaded Firearm During Jamaica Plain Traffic Stop

Officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested a 20-year-old Jamaica Plain man Saturday evening after recovering a loaded firearm during a traffic stop.

At approximately 7:45 p.m. on February 28, 2026, officers were conducting directed patrol in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood when they observed a vehicle traveling without a valid inspection sticker and with a non-functioning left headlight. Officers initiated a traffic stop near 71 Lamartine Street.

Upon approaching the vehicle, officers identified an adult male driver and an adult male passenger, later identified as Widvenson Dorcent, 20, of Jamaica Plain. Officers informed the driver of the reason for the stop and requested his driver’s license and vehicle registration.

The driver was unable to produce either document and appeared increasingly nervous. At one point, he removed his foot from the brake while the vehicle was not in park. Officers suggested he check the glove compartment, where vehicle registrations are commonly stored. The driver initially stated he did not have a key to open it.

As officers continued their investigation, the driver briefly inserted a key into the glove compartment but removed it after speaking with the passenger in another language. At officers’ direction, he again used the key to unlock the compartment. When the glove box was partially opened, officers immediately observed what appeared to be a firearm inside.

Both occupants were removed from the vehicle and detained. A subsequent search of the glove compartment resulted in the recovery of a Heckler & Koch USP firearm. The weapon contained one round in the chamber and nine rounds in the magazine.

Youth Violence Strike Force detectives responded to take custody of the firearm and continue the investigation.

Following further investigation, Dorcent was placed under arrest. He is expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court on the following charges:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm
  • Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card

The driver was issued a Massachusetts Uniform Citation for operating a vehicle with defective lights and for failing to display a valid inspection sticker.
