K-9 Cedric Assists Mattapan Officers with Locating a Firearm

On Friday, February 20, 2026, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Abrao De Melo Semedo Moreira, 19, of Dorchester, on multiple firearm related charges.

About 3:00 AM, police were on directed patrol in the area of Range Road due to two recent shot spotter activations. An individual was seen walking on the sidewalk, but immediately turned into a driveway upon seeing officers. The individual was attempting to conceal himself between the residence and a vehicle in the driveway.

Officers observed the suspect jump over a fence and was running with his hands pinned to the front of his waistband. Officers exited their cruiser and a foot pursuit ensued. Multiple units were requested to respond to the scene for assistance, and the suspect was seen laying face down along the side of a residence on Range Road.

The suspect was taken into custody, and a K-9 was requested to respond to the scene. K-9 Cedric and his handler located a firearm from the suspect’s flight path. District Detectives were requested to process the firearm which was determined to be a Glock 19 with seven rounds in the magazine that is capable of holding fifteen total rounds.

De Melo Semedo Moreira was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court for the following charges:

–          Carry a Firearm without a License

–          Carry a Loaded Firearm without a License

–          Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm

–          Possession of Ammunition without an FID card

–          Trespass

–          Resist Arrest
