The Boston Police Department Remembers the Service and Sacrifice of Officer Daniel J. McShane Who Was Killed in the Line of Duty 104 Years Ago Today

BPD Remembers: The men and women of the Boston Police Department remembers the service and sacrifice of Officer Daniel J. McShane 104 Years ago today. On January 31, 1922, Patrolman McShane was fatally shot shortly after midnight while responding to a dispute between a tenant and landlord at 17 Wheeler Street.

A U.S. Army World War I veteran, Patrolman McShane had served with the Boston Police Department for two years. He was 25 years old at the time of his death.

Patrolman McShane is laid to rest at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Mattapan. His name is located on the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C. on Panel 4, West Line 60. His name is also forever engraved on the Hero Wall at Boston Police Headquarters and the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial at the State House in Boston.

A Hero Sign has been placed in his honor near Wheeler Street in District D-4 (South End). The sign is to forever honor the memory of a man who gave his life in service to his city.
