On Thursday, December 18, 2025, the Boston Police Fugitive Unit arrested 36-year-old Jose Peguero of Boston in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred in Jamaica Plain.
On Sunday evening, October 5, 2025, at approximately 9:38 p.m., officers assigned to District E-13 responded to the area of 101 South Huntington Avenue for a report of two pedestrians struck by a motor vehicle. One pedestrian suffered fatal injuries, and a second sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The vehicle involved fled the scene.
The Boston Police Department Fatal Collision Investigative Team conducted a comprehensive investigation that led to the identification of the vehicle involved as a Chevrolet TrailBlazer registered to Jose Peguero.
Video evidence showed the vehicle traveling outside of designated travel lanes, entering opposing lanes of traffic, and striking two pedestrians in a marked crosswalk before briefly stopping and fleeing the scene. The vehicle was later located and seized by investigators.
Further investigation confirmed Peguero’s movements following the crash and placed him in control of the vehicle before and after the incident. Investigators also determined that Peguero made no attempt to report the collision or recover the seized vehicle.
Jose Peguero is expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court on the following charges:
- Motor Vehicle Homicide, Reckless
- Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision After Causing Personal Injury or Death
- Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (Motor Vehicle)
- Marked Lanes Violation
- Marked Crosswalk Violation
