BPD In the Community: Boston Police Honor Josiah as an Honorary Officer for the Day

On Friday, December 12, 2025, the Boston Police Department welcomed a very special visitor to Police Headquarters.

Josiah, a young Dorchester boy currently battling cancer, shared that his wish was to visit a Boston Police station. Members of the BPD were proud to make that wish a reality. Josiah arrived with a police escort and was welcomed to Headquarters where he became an Honorary Boston Police Officer for the day, a distinction formally presented by Police Commissioner Michael Cox. He was presented with a few BPD items as well as holiday gifts, thanks to the officers who patrol his neighborhood.

During his visit, Josiah spent time meeting officers, exploring the building, and learning more about the work police officers and 911 dispatchers do each day…including a peek at how they keep an eye on Santa and his elves on the big night…just in case Santa needs our help! The Commissioner and officers visited with the 9 year old and it was a day none of us will soon forget. As Josiah’s tour of Headquarters was coming to an end, members of the Boston Fire Department stopped by with a fire truck, helping make the visit even more memorable.

Josiah left a lasting impression on everyone he met. The Boston Police Department is grateful to Josiah and his family for allowing us to be part of such a meaningful moment. We wish Josiah continued strength and send him our very best wishes. We ask that you please keep him in your thoughts as well!
