Two Arrested in Separate Shoplifting Incidents in Back Bay

At approximately 5:43 PM on Monday, October 27, 2025, a Lieutenant Detective in plain clothes observed a man actively shoplifting inside a store at 151 Newbury Street. The detective requested assistance from District D-4 (South End) officers to intervene.

As the suspect attempted to leave the store, the detective identified himself as a Boston Police Officer and tried to detain him. A brief struggle ensued, and the suspect fled the scene on foot. Officers pursued him to the outbound side of the Copley MBTA Station, where he was ultimately taken into custody with the assistance of responding units.

The suspect, Kevin Bridgeman, 58, of Dorchester, is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges of Larceny Over $250 and Resisting Arrest. Detectives later determined that Bridgeman had also stolen merchandise from Urban Outfitters, leading to an additional complaint for Larceny Over $250.

Later that evening, around 8:30 PM, officers responded to a separate report of a shoplifter who had just left the Alo store at the Prudential Mall. The suspect was quickly stopped near the Boylston Street exit and taken into custody.

The suspect, Brian Cleary, 62, of Boston, was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on a charge of Shoplifting by Asportation, Third Offense.
