Suspect Arrested After Breaking & Entering at “Going Bananas” in Downtown Boston

At about 10:30 PM on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, officers assigned to District A-1 (Downtown) responded to a call for a breaking and entering in progress at a business named Going Bananas, located at 65 Salem Street.

According to dispatch, a caller reported seeing a male suspect wearing a black hoodie and black jeans with graffiti markings attempting to break into the store.

Upon arrival, officers observed a man matching that description crouched in front of the open door. The individual, later identified as 24-year-old Elvin Clayton of Roxbury, was seen stuffing items into his clothing before trying to walk away. Officers quickly stopped Clayton and placed him in custody.

A witness told officers that, just minutes earlier, the suspect had approached her and asked for a screwdriver. Officers also recovered items directly linked to the store, including a sealed box of baseball cards and a box of chocolate concealed inside the suspect’s pants. Additional items found in Clayton’s jacket included scissors, a fork, and a lighter. A seatbelt cutter was later recovered during the booking process.

Clayton was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges of:

  • Breaking & Entering of a Building Nighttime (Felony)
  • Possession of a Burglarious Instrument
