Boston Police Officer Shot, Suspect in Custody After Officer-Involved Shooting in Roxbury

At approximately 12:46 AM on Friday, September 12, 2025, a Boston Police officer assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) was shot while investigating suspicious activity in General Edward O. Gourdin African American Veterans Memorial Park. Multiple units responded to the scene and quickly located and apprehended the suspect in the area of 6 Kenilworth Street.

Prior to the shooting, four B-2 officers had been monitoring a group loitering inside the park when they observed one individual standing apart from the group. As officers approached, the individual, later identified as 31-year-old Daiquan Rice, fled on foot. Rice ran from Washington Street onto Archer Terrace before turning toward Kenilworth Street. During the pursuit, Rice discharged a firearm, striking an officer in the arm.

Fearing for their lives and the safety of the public, officers returned fire, striking Rice and taking him into custody. A loaded firearm with an extended magazine capable of holding more than ten rounds was recovered from his person.

Both the injured officer and Rice were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. During a subsequent search, officers recovered two plastic bags containing a white, rock-like substance that had fallen from Rice’s pocket.

Rice remains under arrest at a local hospital and will be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on the following charges:

  • Possession of Class B Drugs
  • Carrying a Firearm Without a License (Loaded)
  • Possession of Ammunition Without an FID Card
  • Carrying a Firearm Without a License
  • Possession of a Large-Capacity Firearm
  • Discharging a Firearm Within 500 Feet of a Building
  • Attempted Murder

As a result of this incident, one officer sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper left arm. Three additional officers also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were treated at area hospitals.
