Two Juveniles Arrested and Firearm Recovered Following ShotSpotter Activation in Dorchester

On Saturday, August 16, 2025, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested two male juveniles, ages 14 and 13, for firearm-related offenses following a ShotSpotter activation in the area of 126 Gallivan Boulevard, Dorchester.

At approximately 1:35 AM, officers responded to the ShotSpotter alert and observed a blue scooter traveling at a high rate of speed on Washington Street from the area of Gallivan Boulevard. The scooter was occupied by two males later identified as the 14-year-old operator (Suspect 1) and the 13-year-old passenger (Suspect 2). Neither was wearing a helmet.

Suspect 1 was described as heavyset, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and a camouflage ski mask on top of his head. Suspect 2 was wearing a shiny silver jacket with matching pants and a black ski mask covering his face.

When officers attempted to stop the scooter on Croftland Avenue with lights and sirens, the suspects fled onto the sidewalk and evaded capture. Officers then proceeded to the ShotSpotter location to continue their investigation.

At 126 Gallivan Boulevard, officers, joined by additional District B-3 units, collected ballistic evidence and reviewed video surveillance. Footage showed two individuals firing a firearm, who were confirmed to be the same juveniles seen on the scooter.

Officers resumed canvassing the area and soon located four juveniles outside the William Henderson School on Croftland Avenue. Suspect 2 was observed behind a fence searching the ground. Officers immediately detained him, then located Suspect 1 hiding nearby in hedges.

A pat frisk of Suspect 2 recovered a live .38 caliber round. No weapon was initially found. Due to the proximity to a school and risk to public safety, officers conducted a thorough search. A revolver was ultimately discovered jammed inside hedges next to where Suspect 1 had been hiding.

The firearm was identified as a silver Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum revolver with a black grip. The cylinder contained four discharged .38 caliber cartridges, consistent with the round recovered from Suspect 2’s pocket.

Both juveniles were arrested and are expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on the following charges:

  • Delinquent to wit: Unlawful possession of a firearm
  • Delinquent to wit: Unlawful possession of ammunition
  • Delinquent to wit: Unlawful possession of a loaded firearm
  • Discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling
