Mattapan Officers Arrested Suspect with a Loaded Firearm

On Sunday, August 17, 2025, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Ricardo Cadet, 19, of Boston, for unlawful possession of a firearm.

About 7:57 PM, officers were monitoring the crowd of a summer festival at 1 Playstead Park, and observed multiple groups on the outskirts of the event. Officers began to walk through the crowds, and their attention was drawn to three individuals who they had prior interactions with. Each individual was carrying a backpack, but two of them were packed, while the third looked completely empty.

Officers approached the group, and one of the individuals attempted to separate himself and walk away. The suspect was stopped and a pat frisk was conducted of himself and his backpack which appeared empty. Officers immediately felt what was consistent with the size and shape of a firearm.

The firearm was processed by detectives and determined to be a Beretta Model 96 with one round in the chamber and ten rounds in the magazine.

Cadet was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court for the following charges:

–          Unlawful Possession of a Firearm without a License

–          Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm

–          Firearm Possession while Loaded

–          Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
