Drug Control Units Arrested Two Suspects with a Loaded Firearm

On Monday, August 4, 2025, officers assigned to the Drug Control Units of District B-3 (Mattapan), E-18 (Hyde Park), and A-7 (East Boston) arrested Daryl Elliot-Powell, 23, of Mattapan, and a 17-year-old juvenile female, on firearm and drug related offenses.

About 12:22 PM, officers were on patrol in the area of Massachusetts Avenue and Albany Street. Officers observed a large group congregating at the intersection, and a female was seen holding money in her hand. Further observations were made of two individuals on a moped, driving onto the sidewalk and approaching the female.

Officers approached the group and identified themselves as Boston Police officers. The group began to flee, and officers grabbed the handlebars of the moped in attempts to stop the suspect. The operator attempted to accelerate, but was quickly removed from the moped.

Both occupants of the moped were placed into handcuffs, and two backpacks had fallen from the moped. One of the backpacks contained a plastic bag of heroin, and the second bag was abnormally heavy. Upon further review of the bag, a firearm was recovered from inside. The backpack also contained three plastic bags of crack cocaine.

The firearm was determined to be a Ruger 9mm with ten rounds in the magazine. The drugs were later weighed and determined to be 5.9 grams of heroin, and 8.6 grams of crack cocaine.

Both suspects were placed under arrest and are expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court for the following charges:

–          Unlawful Possession of a Firearm

–          Unlawful Possession of Ammunition

–          Possession with Intent to Distribute Class A

–          Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B
