Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Armed Suspected Drug Dealer in Roxbury

On Thursday, July 31, 2025, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force, along with Troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit, arrested 37-year-old Detroi Winborne of Brockton, MA, on firearm, drug, and motor vehicle-related charges during a traffic stop in Roxbury.

While patrolling the area, officers observed a motor vehicle fail to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Crawford Street and Walnut Avenue. The vehicle made a right turn onto Walnut Avenue without stopping, prompting officers to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle came to a stop near 283 Walnut Avenue.

Officers approached the vehicle and informed the operator, later identified as Detroi Winborne, of the reason for the stop. Winborne provided a valid driver’s license and vehicle registration. A subsequent query revealed that the vehicle’s insurance had been revoked.

During the stop, officers observed a large quantity of marijuana and packaging materials consistent with drug distribution inside the vehicle. Winborne was ordered out of the vehicle for further investigation. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of the following items:

  • One large bag of marijuana
  • Two medium-sized unsealed bags labeled “White Runtz Cannabis Flower”
  • One digital scale
  • One box of Home Select Zipper Seal snack bags
  • Multiple empty “exotic” marijuana packaging bags

While continuing their investigation, officers noticed an uneven bulge under the driver’s side floor mat. Upon lifting the mat, they located a firearm. Detectives determined the firearm to be a Springfield Armory XD-9, loaded with one round in the chamber and 10 rounds in the magazine.

Detroi Winborne was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on the following charges:

  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
  • Unlawful Possession of Ammunition
  • Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D (Marijuana)
  • Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle

He was also issued a Massachusetts Uniform Citation for the following civil infractions:

  • Failure to Stop/Yield at a Stop Sign
  • Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle
  • Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle
