Investigation Update: Arrest Made in 2021 Homicide at 122 Seaver Street, Roxbury

At approximately 3:10 PM on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, officers from the Boston Police Fugitive Unit arrested 46-year-old Marc Lamothe of Dorchester in connection with the 2021 homicide of 29-year-old Joshua Smith.

The original incident occurred nearly four years ago, on Monday, July 5, 2021, when officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a report of a person shot near the intersection of Seaver Street and Humboldt Avenue in Roxbury. Upon arrival, officers located the victim, later identified as Joshua Smith, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds near 122 Seaver Street. Boston EMS pronounced him deceased shortly after officers arrived at the scene.

Detectives from the Boston Police Homicide Unit responded and initiated an intensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting. After years of dedicated investigative work, the Suffolk County Grand Jury returned indictments on June 27, 2025, charging Marc Lamothe with murder in connection to the death of Joshua Smith.

Following the issuance of an arrest warrant, members of the Boston Police Fugitive Unit located and arrested Lamothe on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, in the area of 555 Hyde Park Avenue.

Marc Lamothe is expected to be arraigned on the following charges:

  • Murder
  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (Second Offense)
