On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Shamal Baptiste, 24, of Dorchester, on firearm offenses.
At about 9:51 PM, officers were in the area of 555 Talbot Avenue for a report of ten people fighting outside. As the officers approached the location, they observed several people walking away. Two individuals made note of officers’ presence, with one male turning around and walking away.
The other male party stopped behind a vehicle, and pinned both of his hands to his body. The male attempted to speak with the front passenger while manipulating an unknown object. At this time, officers exited their cruiser and the suspect quickly entered the rear passenger side door.
The suspect quickly closed the door and began frantically to lock the remaining vehicle doors. Officers began to speak with the front passenger, but the rear passenger continued to interject with the officers’ duties.
Both occupants were requested to exit the vehicle, and a pat frisk was conducted. Officers recovered a loaded firearm from the rear passenger’s waistband. The suspect was immediately placed into handcuffs, and Detectives were requested to respond to the scene. The firearm was determined to be a Polymer 80 Ghost Gun with six rounds in a magazine capable of holding fourteen rounds.
An inquiry of the vehicle’s registration revealed that it had a cancelled status, and it was also parked on a fire hydrant. The vehicle was towed from the scene following the arrest.
Baptiste was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court for the following charges:
– Carry a Firearm Without a License
– Possession of Ammunition Without an FID Card
– Carry a Loaded Firearm Without a License
– Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device
