On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force, in partnership with District B-2 (Roxbury) Detectives, arrested 60-year-old Sylvester Davis of Dorchester on robbery and firearm charges following an in-depth investigation into the armed robbery of the Quincy Variety Store on May 19.
At approximately 7:29 AM on Monday, May 19, 2025, officers assigned to District B-2 responded to a radio call for an armed robbery at 236 Quincy Street. Upon arrival, officers secured the scene and spoke with a store employee who reported that a male suspect had been loitering inside the store. When approached, the suspect brandished a firearm, directed the employee to the cash register, and fled with an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency.
Detectives responded and initiated an investigation. Through a detailed review of surveillance footage, they tracked the suspect’s flight path and observed him using a key fob to access an apartment building at 8 Dunkeld Street. Investigators were able to match the digital timestamp on the fob entry system to identify the person it was assigned to, which led to the issuance of an arrest warrant.
On June 3, 2025, armed with the warrant, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force executed the warrant at 8 Dunkeld Street. Upon entering the apartment, officers located two men, 41-year-old Keon Simpson of Brockton and Sylvester Davis, neither of whom were residents of the unit. Davis was found in the bathroom in possession of the key fob used on the day of the robbery.
Further inquiry revealed the official tenant was reportedly away receiving medical care. Simpson was found to have an active warrant for violating an Abuse Prevention Order and was taken into custody. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
Following an interview and additional investigation, Sylvester Davis was arrested for the May 19 robbery. Detectives later obtained a search warrant for the apartment and recovered a loaded 9mm ghost gun containing nine rounds of ammunition.
Davis is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on the following charges:
- Masked Armed Robbery with a Firearm
- Carrying a Firearm Without a License
- Armed Career Criminal (Level 2)
