At approximately 9:38 PM on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the area of 305 Dudley Street.
Upon arrival, Officers canvassed the area and recovered ballistic evidence on Adams Street. They also observed ballistic damage to a storefront and an apartment at 306 Dudley Street.
District B-2 Detectives responded to process the scene and obtained statements from witnesses, along with video surveillance footage. The footage showed two Black male suspects dressed in all black fleeing the scene on a moped with distinctive features. This information was shared with patrol officers working in the area.
At approximately 12:25 AM the following morning, District B-2 Officers arrested 21-year-old Maurise Tutt of Dorchester for multiple firearm-related offenses during a subject stop near the intersection of Cedar Street and Terrace Street.
Earlier that evening, Officers had been briefed during roll call about the ShotSpotter activation and were advised that suspects were seen fleeing the scene on a blue moped with a unique headlight.
Shortly thereafter, Officers observed a blue moped being operated by a male wearing a hood, a “sheisty”-style mask, and no helmet. As Officers attempted to observe the vehicle, the operator accelerated, fleeing out of Jackson Square toward Columbus Avenue. He continued to evade police by turning onto Centre Street, then onto Highland Street.
Officers relayed the suspect’s direction over the radio, prompting additional units to assist with the search. Moments later, the moped was seen speeding down Cedar Street. Officers observed the rider briefly removing one hand from the handlebars and reaching toward his waistband.
After losing sight of the moped briefly during a U-turn, Officers then spotted it abandoned on the ground. The suspect, later identified as Maurise Tutt, was seen fleeing on foot toward New Heath Street before doubling back toward Cedar and Terrace Streets. Officers gave chase and ordered the suspect to stop. During the foot pursuit, they observed Tutt clutching his waistband.
Tutt was apprehended a short time later. During a search of his flight path, Officers located a loaded firearm at 111 Terrace Street near the abandoned moped. The weapon was identified as a black FNH USA Fredericksburg 9mm firearm, loaded with one round in the chamber and 15 rounds in a large-capacity magazine.
Following the arrest, Tutt attempted to injure an officer by grabbing and twisting their finger during the evidence collection process. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries before being booked.
The moped was towed to District B-2 as part of the ongoing investigation.
Maurise Tutt is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on the following charges:
- Carrying a Firearm Without a License
- Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License
- Unlawful Possession of Ammunition
- Assault and Battery on a Police Officer
In addition, he was issued a Massachusetts Uniform Citation for the following motor vehicle violations:
- Failure to Stop (Two Counts)
- Motor Vehicle Lights Violation
