Dorchester Officers Recovered a Firearm After a Traffic Stop

On Saturday, May 12, 2025, officers assigned to District C-11 (Dorchester) arrested William Gerald, 18, of Mattapan, on firearm charges.

At about 9:42 PM, officers were on patrol in the area of Quincy Street and Bowdoin Street when they observed a motor vehicle operating without its headlights illuminated. Officers activated their marked cruiser emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.

The operator of the vehicle was unable to produce a valid driver’s license, and informed the officer that he had a permit. Officers requested the operator and two passengers to exit the vehicle. As the rear right passenger exited the vehicle, he immediately fled the scene in a full sprint.

A foot pursuit ensued, and the suspect was seen clutching his waistband as he was running. The suspect was apprehended on Quincy Street, and a K9 officer was requested to canvass the flight path. K9 Dwight located a discarded firearm between two barrels.

The vehicle was secured, and towed back to District C-11 pending a search warrant. The firearm recovered was determined to be a Ghost Gun with one round in the chamber and six rounds in a magazine capable of holding fifteen rounds.

Gerald was placed under arrest is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court for the following charges:

–          Carrying a Firearm Without an FID Card, Subsequent Offence

–          Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, 2nd Offence

–          Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm

–          Possession of Ammunition Without an FID Card, Subsequent Offence

The 16-year-old Juvenile Male, who was operating the vehicle was placed under arrest and was charged with Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. He is expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court.
