Firearm Recovered During Drug Investigation in Mattapan Square

On Thursday, April 10, 2025, Officers assigned to the District E-18 (Hyde Park) Drug Control Unit (DCU) arrested 24-year-old Jaire Bagby of Mattapan on firearm and drug-related charges following a drug investigation in Mattapan Square.

At approximately 4:50 PM, Officers were conducting surveillance in the area of Mattapan Square as part of an active drug investigation when they observed a man standing in front of 1625 Blue Hill Avenue, later identified as Jaire Bagby. While monitoring Bagby, Officers observed another male approach him and engage in a brief exchange of items. After the exchange, the second individual entered a nearby convenience store before getting into a Jeep and driving away. Based on their training and experience, Officers believed they had witnessed a drug transaction and requested additional units to assist with a traffic stop.

With support from District E-18 Officers, DCU members conducted a motor vehicle stop at 28 Oakcrest Street and approached the Jeep to continue their investigation. During the stop, they determined that the operator had purchased marijuana from Bagby. Officers then requested assistance from District B-3 to locate and detain Bagby for further investigation.

Bagby was located still standing in front of 1625 Blue Hill Avenue and was detained without incident. During a subsequent search, Officers recovered a firearm from the upper left pocket of his jacket and three plastic bags containing marijuana.

The firearm was determined to be a Ruger Police Service Six .357 Magnum with an obliterated serial number and six rounds in the chamber.

Jaire Bagby was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on the following charges:

  • Distribution of a Class D Substance
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class D Substance
  • Unlawful Possession of Ammunition
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License
