On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, Officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested a 16-year-old male from Mattapan on multiple firearm charges following a response to several ShotSpotter activations.
At approximately 6:34 PM, Officers responded to a radio call for ShotSpotter activations at 146 Erie Street and 118 Ellington Street. Upon arrival, Officers located a teenage victim surrounded by several individuals outside 70 Ellington Street. The victim reported that three suspects, who approached him on scooters and questioned him, fired shots at him before fleeing the area. The victim was not struck.
Officers obtained a description of the suspects and their direction of flight, promptly broadcasting the information via radio to other Officers in the area. A crime scene was established.
While some Officers processed the crime scene, additional units canvassed the area. While traveling on Harvard Street toward Greenwood Street, Officers observed two scooters, each occupied by two individuals, moving at a high rate of speed. Based on various factors, Officers believed these individuals were involved in the shooting and attempted to stop the scooters.
Officers exited their cruiser and attempted to detain one of the scooters. As they approached, the operator made evasive maneuvers, causing the rear passenger to fall off. The driver then fled the scene while Officers pursued the suspect, who was now on foot, sprinting down Harvard Street toward Norwell Street.
Despite repeated commands to stop, the suspect continued to flee, eventually running into a parking lot and onto train tracks. Officers requested additional units and conducted a search of the area, ultimately locating and apprehending the suspect hiding behind 213 Norwell Street.
During the investigation, Officers suspected that the fleeing individual had discarded an item near Greenwood Street and Harvard Street. A thorough search of the area led to the recovery of a tan-colored Canik semi-automatic firearm with an inserted magazine capable of holding more than ten rounds of ammunition. The magazine was empty, and there were no rounds in the chamber.
The 16-year-old male suspect was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on the following charges:
- Delinquency To Wit:
- Trespassing
- Carrying a Firearm Without a License
- Unlawful Possession of Ammunition
- Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm
