Mass and Cass Drug Dealer Arrested for Fentanyl Trafficking

On Monday, February 3, 2025, at approximately 1:05 PM, officers assigned to the C-6 (South Boston) Drug Control Unit (DCU) arrested Jose Soto, 33, of Boston, on drug trafficking charges following an investigation in the area of Melnea Cass Boulevard and Massachusetts Avenue.

The Boston Police Department has received numerous complaints regarding narcotics-related activity in this neighborhood. In response, ongoing enforcement efforts by Drug Control Officers have resulted in multiple arrests for drug-related offenses.

During the investigation, Officers observed a vehicle driven by Jose Soto circling the “Mass & Cass” area in a manner that raised suspicion. As they continued surveillance, they saw the vehicle pull over and partially park on East Lennox Street.

Soto remained inside the vehicle, frequently checking his phone and looking around in all directions, as if waiting for someone. A short time later, an unidentified male approached the vehicle and engaged in what appeared to be a hand-to-hand drug transaction with Soto. Based on their training and experience, Officers recognized the exchange as indicative of street-level drug activity.

Officers coordinated with additional units from District C-6 to conduct a motor vehicle stop for further investigation. Once backup arrived, Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens, stopping Soto’s vehicle near Montrose Street.

During the stop, Officers conducted a search of the vehicle, leading to the discovery of seventeen (17) small plastic bags of suspected fentanyl inside a larger plastic bag. Additionally, Officers recovered an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency. Soto was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges of Trafficking Class A Drugs (Fentanyl), 14-27 grams.
