Suspect Arrested After a ShotSpotter Activation in Roxbury

At about 4:37 AM, on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Marcel Barrows, 34, of Roxbury, on firearm and drug related offenses.

Officers responded to the area of 2343 Washington Street for a report of a ShotSpotter Activation. Officers began to search the area for any suspects, victims, or witnesses of a crime.

While officers were traveling down Washington Street towards Roxbury Street, they observed a group of individuals congregating in the middle of the street. As officers approached the group, they observed an individual separate himself and walk on the sidewalk up Roxbury Street.

Officers observed the individual bend over behind a parked motor vehicle and then walk back towards the group. Officers exited their cruiser and immediately observed a discarded firearm on the ground behind the vehicle.

Officers approached the suspect and immediately placed him into handcuffs. During a search incident to arrest, officers recovered a plastic bag containing Crack Cocaine, which weighed approximately seven grams. The firearm was later determined to be a Taurus .38 Revolver loaded with five rounds and one spent shell casing.

Barrows was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Discharging a Firearm Within 500 Feet of a Building, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
