At about 9:30 PM, on Friday, December 27, 2024, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested David Jones, 50, of Roxbury, on various firearm offenses.
Officers were on patrol in the area of Blue Hill Avenue when they observed a motor vehicle with excessive window tint traveling towards Moreland Street. Officers activated their cruiser’s lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.
Officers observed the vehicle fail to stop for the red light at the intersection of Blue Hill Avenue and Magazine Street. The vehicle then failed to stop for officers, until stopping in the area of Norfolk Avenue and Gerard Street.
Officers made contact with the operator and requested his license and registration. Officers determined that the operator did not have an active driver’s license and requested that he exit the vehicle. Officers conducted a motor vehicle inventory search and recovered a firearm. The firearm was later determined to be a Springfield Armory XD-40 with ten rounds in the magazine.
At this time, officers attempted to place the suspect into handcuffs, but the suspect began to resist. With the assistance of responding officers, the suspect was safely placed into handcuffs.
Jones was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 2nd Offense, Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Firearm Violation with One Prior Violent/Drug Crime, Resisting Arrest, and Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
