South Boston Officers Arrest Package Theft Suspect

At about 2:30 AM, on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, officers assigned to District C-6 (South Boston) arrested Derek Kuzava, 34, of Boston, for various Larceny charges.

Officers responded to the area of I Street and E Fourth Street for a report of a larceny in progress. Boston Police Operations provided officers with a description of a group of suspects who were stealing packages.

Officers located the group on E Eighth Street and requested for them to stop. Officers exited their cruiser and observed one of the individuals bend down behind a vehicle in an attempt to discard an unknown item.

Officers could see in plain view an open package that was not addressed to the suspect. The box contained multiple items of clothing that had tags on them and were wrapped in protective paper. After further investigation, officers were able to recover various stolen items from the suspect.

Kuzava was placed under arrest and charged with Larceny from a Building, and Receiving Stolen Property. Officers also determined that the suspect had two warrants for his arrest for charges of Larceny over $1,200, Breaking and Entering Nighttime for a Felony, and Possession of Class A. He is expected to be arraigned in South Boston District Court.
