16 Grams of Crack Cocaine Recovered After a Traffic Stop in Roxbury

At about 1:20 AM, on Saturday, December 7, 2024, officers assigned to B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Jashaun Benalfew, 22, of Roxbury, on drug charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Dudley Street when they observed a motor vehicle with excessive window tint. Officers activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop and stopped the vehicle in the area of Harrison Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard. Officers made contact with the occupants of the vehicle and observed the front passenger to not have his seat belt on.

After further investigation, officers determined that the vehicle’s registration was revoked and would need to be towed. Officers conducted an inquiry of the identifications of the occupants and also learned that the passenger had an active warrant for his arrest.

Officers requested both occupants to exit the vehicle, and placed the passenger into handcuffs. Officers conducted a search of the suspect and recovered a large plastic bag containing what they believed was Crack Cocaine. The drugs were later determined to weigh approximately sixteen grams.

Benalfew was placed under arrest for an active warrant out of Suffolk Superior Court for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License. He was additionally charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.

The operator of the vehicle was able to produce proper registration for the vehicle, and was issued a Massachusetts Uniform Citation.
