Boston Common Stabbing Suspect Arrested

At 8:18 AM, on Tuesday, October 1st, 2024, District A-1 (Downtown) Officers on patrol were flagged down for a report of an assault & battery in-progress inside the Boston Commons near the Brewer Fountain. Officers responded and located an adult male victim who was suffering from multiple stab wounds. Officers rendered first aid to the victim and applied a tourniquet before he was transported to a local hospital for further treatment. 

District A-1 Detectives responded, and after conducting a thorough investigation, sought an arrest warrant after identifying the suspect involved. 

At 12:10 AM, On Saturday, October 12th, 2024, Officers assigned to the Drug Control Units of Districts A-1, E-5, and D-4, arrested 27-year-old Philip Chen, of Quincy, MA, for his suspected involvement in the October 1st  Boston Commons stabbing. Officers were conducting a separate drug investigation in downtown Boston when they observed Chen at the intersection of Summer St. and Otis St. Officers were aware of the outstanding arrest warrant for Chen and placed him in custody without incident. 

Philip Chen was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court for the charges of Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon Causing Serious Bodily Injury (To Wit Knife), Assault & Battery on an Elderly and /or Disabled Person with Serious Injury, and Larceny under $250 Dollars from an Elderly and /or Disabled Person.
