Traffic Stop in Roxbury Leads To Recovery of a Firearm and Suspect’s Arrest

At about 3:20 AM, on Saturday, September 7th, 2024, Officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) conducted a traffic stop resulting in the arrest of Crystal Oviedo, 25, of the South End, for firearm related offenses.

Officers were patrolling the 1500 block of Columbus Ave. when they observed a vehicle traveling on Columbus Ave. with an expired registration. Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens and conducted a traffic stop.

Officers approached the vehicle and identified the sole occupant and operator of the vehicle as Crystal Oviedo. After she provided her driver’s license, a query revealed that her license was suspended and was illegally operating her vehicle.

Officers began in investigation of the vehicle and recovered a firearm located inside of the vehicle underneath the passenger seat.

District B-2 Detectives responded and determined the firearm to be a Taurus Millennium Pt111 G2 9mm semi-automatic firearm, with 8 rounds of 9mm in a metallic feeding device, and 1 round in the chamber. The firearm also had an obliterated serial number.

Crystal Oviedo was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court for the charges of Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License, and Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle on a Public Way.
