YVSF Recovered a Loaded Firearm After a Traffic Stop

At about 6:24 PM, on Thursday, August 22, 2024, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested Abdul Omer, 32, of Cambridge, on firearm charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Washington Street towards Erie Street when they observed a motor vehicle with an expired inspection sticker. Officers were able to follow the vehicle and activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. Officers stopped the vehicle in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Brunswick Street, and observed both the operator and passenger to not be wearing their seat belts.

After further investigation, officers requested the occupants to exit the vehicle, which they refused. After multiple attempts, officers were able to get both occupants outside of the vehicle. Officers conducted a pat frisk of the vehicle, and recovered a firearm from inside. The firearm was later determined to be a Glock 29 with one round in the chamber and eight rounds in the magazine.

Omer was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
