At about 1:20 AM, on Friday, August 2nd, 2024, District B-2 (Roxbury) Officers arrested Erroll Gomes, 33, of Dorchester for firearm and drug related offenses during a traffic stop at 80 Walnut Ave, Roxbury.
Officers were traveling on Quincy St. towards Blue Hill Ave. when their attention was drawn to a scooter being operated by a person, later identified as Gomes, not wearing a helmet. Officers continued to watch the scooter and Gomes as it bypassed a redlight at the intersection of Quincy St. and Warren St. Officers moved their vehicle to the intersection of Walnut Ave. and Rockland St. in the scooter’s anticipated direction of travel to safely conduct a traffic stop, but the scooter and Gomes never reached the intersection.
Officers moved their position and located the scooter nearby in the rear of an apartment building on Walnut Ave, with Gomes standing next to it. Officers exited their cruiser to conduct a traffic stop and the Gomes started sprinting towards Walnut Ave. Officers followed Gomes on foot as he ran down Walnut Ave. onto Walnut Ct.
While running from Officers, Gomes attempted to run through a fence located at the end of Walnut Ct, but bounced off and was brought to the ground by Officers. While apprehending Gomes, Officers removed two plastic bags containing what is believed to be crack cocaine hanging out of Gomes’ mouth.
An investigation continued and resulted in the recovery of a firearm located inside the scooter’s storage compartment.
Detectives responded and the firearm was determined to be a Bryco Arms Jennings Model 48 .380 Auto. The firearm was also loaded with ammunition in its magazine.
Erroll Gomes was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court for the charges of Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute and Trespassing. Gomes was also issued a Mass Uniform Citation for No Helmet, Failure to Stop at a Red Light, and Operating an Unregistered Moped.
