At about 8:40 PM, on Wednesday, July 31st, 2024, Officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested David Nunez, 37, of Hyde Park for firearm offenses during a traffic stop at Dale St. and Sherman St, Roxbury.
Officers were on a directed patrol traveling on Walnut Ave. towards Dale St. when they observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign and continue to travel at a high rate of speed. Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens and pulled the vehicle over to conduct a traffic stop.
During the traffic stop, Officers attention was drawn to the operator’s movement inside the vehicle when they were approaching, and when they contacted him, he continued to display uneasy movements and erratic behavior which prompted a further investigation.
During their investigation, Officers recovered a firearm located inside a fanny pack located on the front passenger floor board inside the vehicle and the operator, identified as David Nunez, was placed in custody.
District B-2 Detectives responded and determined that the firearm to be a Ruger EC95. The firearm had no round in the chamber and six (6) bronze luger rounds in a magazine that could hold seven (7) rounds.
David Nunez was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court for the charges of Carrying a Firearm Without a License (2nd Offense), Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
Nunez was also issued a Mass Uniform Citation for Speeding at a Rate of Speed Exceeding the Posted Limit and Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign.
