At about 2:30 AM, on Friday, June 21, 2024, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Ronnie Powell, 38, of Roxbury, on firearm charges.
Officers were on patrol in the area of Columbia Road when they observed an operator of a motor vehicle who they were aware was involved in a prior armed robbery incident. Officers also knew that the operator had a suspended driver’s license and was not legally able to operate a motor vehicle.
As officers were following the motor vehicle, they observed it fail to stop at a stop sign. At this time, officers activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. Officers were able to stop the motor vehicle in the area of 97 Bird Street.
Officers made contact with the occupants of the vehicle, and requested the operator to produce a driver’s license. The operator stated that his license was suspended, and officers requested that he exit the vehicle.
After further investigation, officers recovered a firearm from the vehicle. The firearm was later determined to be a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield with one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine.
Powell was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 2nd Offense, Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and firearm violation with three prior violent/drug crimes.
