Officers Arrested Suspect with a Loaded Firearm in Dorchester

At about 6:34 PM, on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, members of the Drug Control Unit of District E-18 (Hyde Park) and officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Yozaxi Peguero, 18, of Dorchester, on firearm charges.

Officers were conducting an ongoing investigation in the area of 60 Southern Avenue. Officers observed a group of young teenagers in the area, and one individual was constantly checking his messenger bag. Officers further observed the individual reach towards the bag and motioned with both hands as if he was pulling the trigger as if he were to be shooting.

Officers requested the assistance of responding officers to stop the group. Officers observed the group make their way to the backyard of the building. As officers approached the group, an individual frantically attempted to gain access into the building.

The individual was able to enter a basement door and ran from officers. A foot pursuit ensued and as officers attempted to apprehend the suspect, he began to actively resist. The suspect attempted to reach towards his fanny pack as officers attempted to gain control of his hands.

As officers placed the suspect into handcuffs, they recovered a firearm on the second-floor landing. The firearm was later determined to be a Bryco Jennings with one round in the chamber and eleven rounds in the magazine.

Peguero was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Breaking and Entering in the Daytime. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
