In July of 2019, Adilson Tavares was charged in relation to a nonfatal stabbing that occurred at 101 Hampden St, Roxbury, and two outstanding warrants were issued following his indictment in Suffolk Superior Court. Officers attempted to apprehend Tavares, but were informed that he had fled the country.
At about 12:05 PM, on Saturday, June 15th, 2024, Members of the Boston Police Youth Violence Strike Force (YVSF) arrested Adilson Tavares, 29, of Mattapan, and recovered a firearm after locating him inside Denis Street Park, located at 138 Moreland St, Roxbury.
Officers were patrolling the area of Howard St. and Dewey St. in Roxbury, when they recognized Tavares driving by them on a motorized scooter. Officers broadcasted his direction of flight and description to other Officers and began to search the surrounding area to locate him.
Approximately 10 minutes later, Officers observed a small group of people inside the playground at Denis Street Park, and the scooter Tavares was operating leaning against a nearby fence. Officers called for backup and requested officers to respond to the surrounding area to prevent any attempts by Tavares to flee. Once additional Officers arrived, Officers entered the park to locate him.
As Officers entered the park, Tavares recognized them and frantically attempted to flee on his motorized scooter, but was apprehended after a brief struggle and placed under arrest. Officers recovered a firearm located inside a fanny pack that Tavares had strapped across his chest.
YVSF Detectives responded and determined that the recovered firearm was a black semi-automatic 9 mm Bersa “Thunder 9 Ultra Compact Pro”. The firearm’s 13 round magazine was loaded with 13 live rounds of 9 mm ammunition. There was an additional live 9 mm round in the firearm’s chamber.
Tavares is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on outstanding warrants for the charges of Armed Assault with Intent to Murder, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon Causing Serious Bodily Injury, and Assault and Battery.
Additionally, Tavares was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Resisting Arrest.
