YVSF Recovered a Large Capacity Firearm in Hyde Park

At about 8:15 PM, on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested Savon Barbosa, 20, of Boston, on firearm charges.

Officers were conducting an ongoing firearm investigation in the area of 488 Cummins Highway. Officers were aware that an individual was in possession of a firearm. Officers observed a motor vehicle in the area with four people seated across the rear passenger bench without any seatbelts. As officers pulled behind the vehicle, they further observed that the license plate light was not operable.

At this time, officers activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. Officers requested the operator for his drivers license which he did not have in his possession. Officers observed the rear passengers to not be wearing seatbelts, and could see a partially empty bottle of tequila. Officers determined that only one passenger in the vehicle was twenty-one years old.

Officers requested the occupants to exit the vehicle to conduct a pat frisk. After further investigation, officers recovered a firearm from inside the vehicle. The firearm was later determined to be a Glock 19 with a laser sight attachment, one round in the chamber and thirty-two rounds in the magazine. Officers queried the serial number of the firearm which determined that it was stolen out of Maine.

Barbosa was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device, and receiving stolen property. He is expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court.
