B-3 Anti-Crime Unit Recovered a Firearm in Mattapan

At about 1:00 AM, on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, officers assigned to the Anti-Crime Unit of District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Tahre Mims, 31, of Randolph, on firearm charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Harvard Street and Morton Street when they observed a motor vehicle with no front license plate and the rear license plate was obstructed. Officers activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.

Officers made contact with the occupants and observed the right rear passenger reach towards the floor and then sit back up before rolling down his window. After further investigation, officers requested the occupants to exit the vehicle.

As officers were about to frisk the rear passenger, he stated that he had a firearm located in this groin area. Officers immediately placed the suspect into handcuffs, and recovered a firearm which was later determined to be a Glock 42 with six rounds in the magazine. The operator of the vehicle was promptly released from the scene.

Mims was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
