Shot Spotter Activation Results in the Recovery of Large Capacity Firearm, Ammunition, and Suspect’s Arrest

Officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan/Dorchester) recovered a firearm and arrested Patrick Ricketts, 32, of Dorchester, while responding to a Shot Spotter activation in Dorchester.

At about 10:42 PM, on Tuesday, June 4th, 2024, Officers responded to a Shot Spotter Activation at 140 Centre St, Dorchester. While Officers were traveling towards the area of the Shot Spotter activation, they observed a Kia Optima traveling in the opposite direction of the activation at a high rate of speed and failing to stop at a stop sign. Officers continued to observe the Kia drive aggressively and at a speed greater than reasonable before activating their emergency lights and sirens and conducting a traffic stop.

Once the Kia was pulled over, Officers spoke with the operator, Patrick Ricketts, and his passenger. Officers conducted a query which revealed that Ricketts was driving unlicensed and had two prior illegal firearm convictions from Suffolk Superior Court and Plymouth Superior Court.

Following the traffic stop, Officers investigated the passengers and vehicle, which resulted in the recovery of a large capacity firearm from a bag located on the front passenger floorboard of the vehicle. District B-3 Detectives responded and determined that the recovered firearm was a Glock 19 Gen 5 .9mm semi-automatic pistol, with an extended magazine, capable of holding 16 rounds.  The magazine had 16 rounds inserted and 1 round in the chamber.

Patrick Ricketts was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court for the charges of Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of Ammunition Without an FID, and a Firearm Violation with 2 Prior Firearm and/or Drug Crimes. Patrick Ricketts was also issued a Mass Uniform Citation for Operating a Motor Vehicle After Suspension, Failing to Stop at a Stop Sign, and Operating a Motor Vehicle at a Speed Greater Than Reasonable.
