B-3 Drug Control Unit Arrested a Suspect with a Loaded Firearm

At about 1:30 PM, on Thursday, May 23, 2024, members of the Drug Control Unit of District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Ruben Charles, 33, of Hyde Park, on firearm charges.

Officers were conducting an ongoing drug investigation in the area of River Street and Edgewater Drive. Officers were aware that the target of their investigation had two active arrest warrants and was believed to carry a firearm.

Officers observed the male suspect enter a motor vehicle with an unknown female. Officers followed the suspect’s motor vehicle, but lost sight of it on River Street. Officers exited their cruisers to search for the suspect on foot.

Officers were able to locate the suspect and unknown female in the area of 1281 River Street. Officers were able to handcuff the suspect, and during a search incident to arrest, they recovered a firearm from his waistband. The firearm was later determined to be a Bersa Thunder with one round in the chamber and four rounds in the magazine.  

Charles was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition. His arrest warrant was for breaking and entering during the daytime. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
