At about 7:10 PM, on Monday, May 13, 2024, officers assigned to District D-4 (South End) arrested Justin Smith, 22, of Brighton, on larceny charges.
Officers responded to the area of 1 Ring Road for a report of a shoplifter in custody. Officers were advised by Loss Prevention that an employee had been stealing merchandise over the past two days.
Loss Prevention Staff stated to officers that they observed the staff member enter the stock room, and steal approximately $25,125 in merchandise. Loss Prevention Staff followed the suspect as he was trying to pass the items to a motor vehicle on Ring Road. Loss Prevention staff stopped the suspect, and brought him back to the store. All items were recovered and returned to the store.
After further investigation, it was determined that the suspect also stole $22,530 in merchandise the day before. The suspect passed the items to an unknown female who fled the area. The incident remains under investigation.
Smith was placed under arrest and charged with larceny over $1,200. He is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
